Meet the Principal

Saneya Elnimer

Saneya Elnimer founded The Continental School of Cairo in 1994 with a clear vision: to create a nurturing, inclusive environment that would meet the unique needs of every child. Driven by a deep belief in the holistic development of students, she sought to design a school where children would not only excel academically but also grow socially and emotionally. Her goal was to shape independent, confident, and productive citizens who would contribute meaningfully to society. Over the years, The Continental School of Cairo has become a testament to that vision, with countless graduates achieving great success, many of whom have gone on to attend prestigious universities around the world. Saneya Elnimer remains incredibly proud of the school’s legacy and the positive impact it continues to have on the lives of its students.

The School Campus

The school campus is situated in El Obour city, a new district on the outskirts of Cairo, about 20/25 minutes by car from Heliopolis. This new campus, which opened in 2000, covers an area of 12,000 square meters of beautifully landscaped grounds, swimming pools and sport facilities. The school campus comprises three schools, all of which enjoy first class facilities and fully air-conditioned classrooms. The campus is served by a fleet of modern and air conditioned school buses for the transportation of staff and students.

The Continental International School (CIS)

CIS is a British International School offering high-quality education based on the British National Curriculum, integrated with the compulsory subjects set by the Egyptian Ministry of Education. The school is widely recognized for its academic excellence and commitment to high standards. Beyond academics, CIS provides a warm, inclusive, and safe learning environment where each child is supported and encouraged to grow—academically, socially, and emotionally.

The Continental Language School (CLS)

CLS follows the Egyptian National Curriculum, with English as the main medium of instruction. All subjects are taught in English, except for Arabic, Religion, and Social Studies, which are delivered in Arabic. CLS is well known for delivering a high-quality education that enriches students both academically and personally. Our learning environment encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and a love for learning, while supporting the development of well-rounded, confident individuals.

The Continental School of Cairo (CSC)

CSC is a small British Special Education school for children with learning difficulties and SEND. As the first school of its kind in the Middle East, it has built and maintained an excellent reputation for providing tailored educational programmes that meet the individual needs of each student. The academic curriculum follows the British National Curriculum, supplemented by vocational training to enhance students' practical skills. CSC is proud of its students' achievements, with many progressing to CIS, advancing to university, or securing suitable employment.

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the Continental School of Cairo, and I hope you will find our website informative and useful. It has been quite a journey since I have started the Continental School of Cairo in 1994 as the first Special Education School in Egypt under very challenging and difficult conditions. In those days, the concept of special education was virtually unknown in Egypt and I soon found out that it was necessary first to educate the mind of many people in authority who said it could not be done, before I could start educating children with special needs. Going through red tape and many man-made obstacles was not easy, but with persistence and conviction, the Continental School of Cairo (CSC) was officially born on a small scale in January 1994.

The turning point came few years later when many parents asked if the same level of education we have become renowned for could also be applied to mainstream education, and the Continental Language School (CLS) was born in the year 2000 in the present campus. In 2007, the Continental International School (CIS) was opened to provide first class British education following the British National Curriculum. Looking back, I am very proud of the way the Continental School has grown rapidly over the years from a modest beginning to approximately 1000 boys and girls in all schools this year. To meet the constant increase in demand for places, a substantial building expansion programme was completed recently. We are very proud of our modern campus and the very stimulating and inspiring learning environment we provide throughout the school. Our students enjoy first class sporting facilities and make full use of the state of the art Computer facilities, Science laboratories, Libraries, Music and Art & Craft rooms.

Today, The Continental school is a vibrant, outward-looking community, which encourages a happy, friendly atmosphere in which pupils can thrive. We want all our pupils to value academic excellence and to realise that it is attainable. We aim to encourage a love of learning, a spirit of enquiry and an independence of mind. We wish to develop the self-esteem and self-confidence of our pupils and to encourage them to take part in a wide range of extra-curricular activities in a stimulating environment.

We aim to foster good relations between staff and pupils and between the pupils themselves. The school encourages consideration and tolerance of others and is committed to developing in its pupils a strong sense of personal responsibility and a commitment to helping others. We pride ourselves on the pursuit of excellence both inside the classroom and out, and on encouraging children to develop their talents, discover new interests and prepare for the challenges of the 21st Century. We want the pupils who come here to leave us as confident young adults who are able to make the most of the opportunities life will offer them. Indeed, our eyes are firmly set on the future as well as the present and as a school we are always looking for improvement in various ways. Bringing out the best in our pupils is our priority, but we also seek to bring out the best in the school’s structures and programmes as we adjust to the ever-changing demands being placed on education in this country. I am sure your sons and daughters will enjoy being part of the Continental School. They will be given every opportunity to gain academic success, achieve personal fulfilment and develop their talents and social skills in a friendly and supportive environment.
